(Sol Eye Sea I)
Atmospheric metal, Progressive
ISIS, Cult of Luna, Pelican
Hailing very close to one of Rotation11’s locations, we would like to introduce you to Sharon Massachusetts’, Irepress. Call it post metal, intelligent rock, or progressive rock we are not all that certain. We are certain, however, that this is some of the most crafty hard rock musicianship out today. Sol Eye See I is layered with unique experimental sounds that are built for hi-fi headphones coupled with some intense ISIS like-song structures that takes you to alternate dimension.
The varying guitar-work is superb, providing you with both high pitched virtuoso fretwork to the grinding bone-chilling sludgery. The highs and lows compliment one another so well. "Adeluge" is one of the best tracks on the ablum loaded with some of the best guitar interplay you will every hear. The 11 minute plus finale in "Entanglement" is also extremely diverse and captivating. "Fletchie" is the only weak tune on the album (gets a bit redundant) costing the album a 9 or better rating by our editors.
Do yourself a favor and pick this album up. Irepress has the talent and uniqueness to get far in this world if intelligent fans like yourselves support them. I know our Massachusetts editors will be all over their next live show in town. This is a terrific addition to your collection.
Standout Track: Adeluge
