This San Diego based trio’s library of work consists of some of the most original and unique bass work you will ever hear. Dark and eerie lyrics create images and moods like none other. 3MP’s fifth album released in 2010 is a gem. After a 13 year hiatus to do projects such as the Black Heart Procession and Pinback, 3MP is back with a little different edge. Smith, Zinser and Jenkins keep the vibe strong from their 1997 album Another Desert, Another Sea, yet adding some more upbeat tempos and more infectious melodies while developing a more poppy accessibility.

"Grey Clouds" and "Planets" are two or the more roots driven tracks. We may be a little biased here, in that some of our editors grew up with 3MPs mood driven collection, taking them away to a desolate and gloomy place, but we like the slight shift in style. The catchier tunes may break some new listeners in to the 3MP world. I strongly recommend you grab their older albums to strengthen your mood driven music collection. - 2/15/2012
