Hookworms full length debut is a loaded with echo induced vocals and euphoric drug laced imagery. The five piece band hailing from the UK feature lead singer MJ who does not waiver in using the echo effect 100% of the time. MJs vocals are magnetic and a key ingredient to the album's beauty. The albums tracks flow together in a deep mood setting work of art featuring some very unique and impressive production. The mood is overcast and gloomy throughout, sprinkled with random sprays of sunshine (periodic tambourine, organ and acoustic guitar). After many listens we found the album quite cathartic and relaxing, often coming into rotation when needing an escape from the day to day.

The lead track "Away Towards" is a great opener lasting 8:50 as you can almost feel the fog building to set the atmosphere. The track features tremendous build-up and piercing fretwork throughout. Track 2, "Form & Function" serves up some chilling organ work and has a rhythm section reminding us of classic Swervedriver. "Preservation" is the heaviest of the bunch featuring some brooding percussion, phenomenal bass lines and MJ belting out in anguish more so than any other tune on the album. The ending is mesmerizing with its unique use of tasteful eerie feedback transitioning into a blissful interlude with subtle robotic like effects and synthesizer.

Pearl Mystic
is a unique trip into a realm that clearly offers no opportunity for commercial success. Instead, Hookworms have put together an impactfull statement in providing psychedelia fans with something truly different and vibrant for their collection.  Hookworms has a very bright future and will hopefully be a mainstay in further providing an imprint into the psychedelic world.
