Kick back and let the psychedelic aura of Knall succumb over you. The seven-piece band from Cologne, Germany will take you on a 70-plus minute journey through avenues of wondrous psychedelics and 70s inspired krautrock. Released through Tonzonen Records, Raubkatze auf 12 Uhr is an album filled with very hypnotic and beautiful psych jams.

For such a long instrumental album, we were cautious to how they could hold our attention. Not only did they captivate us, but this has become a mainstay in our rotation for a couple of our editors. It’s an album that seems to fit any activity; take this one a road trip, a hiking excursion, background music for working or just bumming around the house, the music is very engrossing.

What are the highlights of the album?
It’s impossible to pick out any particular songs, just let the music flow. We found the bass work of Christoph Geiger to be extremely addicting, his style resembles a trippier Les Claypool and really elevates this album.

How is the production value?
The production is fantastic, especially for a seven-piece band. Each instrument is played at a high standard as this is an extremely talented group of musicians.

What adult beverage to enjoy while listening to this album?

We definitely recommend Franziskaner Weissbier brewed by Spaten-Franziskaner-Bräu. This Hefeweizen-styled brew has a light to medium body and gives off a citrus or light banana flavor. It’s a flavorful beer that will compliment this album very well.

What are our final thoughts on Raubkatze auf 12 Uhr?
For the vast amount of instrumental bands out there, this album really seems to stand out. If you want something heavy or mellow, it’s all here. The music is so damn fluent as it travels through so many elements of psychedelic and krautrock. Do yourself a favor and grab this one, you will not be disappointed, than head over to their Bandcamp site and explore their other releases… it’s well worth your time. - 4/14/2017
