Psychic Lemon
(Frequency Rhythm Distortion)
2018
Staff Rating: Crank this to 9.2 of 11
|    Editor's Pick
Genre:
Krautrock, Psychedelic
Sounds Like:
Hawkwind, The Heads, Earthless
Is it possible we could be witnessing the rebirth of Krautrock? There are many signs of this genre making a huge comeback, not that it ever went anywhere. We just felt stoner rock and doom have stolen the spotlight from the heavy underground. Just check out the new Mother Engine album Hangar, or Stoned Gold by 3rd Ear Experience and even Casa Sui, bands are definitely working this style of rock into their sound.

Psychic Lemon is now resurrecting this mind-numbing, 70s inspired psychedelic rock aura on their sophomore release Frequency Rhythm Distortion. The UK-based psych rock aficionados have taken their music to new levels with this one.  The psychedelic nature of their highly acclaimed Self-Titled debut left the door wide open for them to take their music anywhere. With massive doses of repetitive Krautrock injected into the already psychedelic richness, they have chosen to take the path of drug-laced, intoxicating psych jams on this new release.

With minimal echoed vocals and an all-out assault on your senses, Frequency Rhythm Distortion will take your mind to colorful landscapes and become a needed distraction from the daily grind. It’s a well-produced album with repetitive percussion and trippy distortion. The heavy repetitive nature of the album is very alluring and will engulf your senses; it’s an easy album to get lost in. For those in search of heavy and trippy psychedelic jams your quest has just ended, throw this one in while enjoying your favorite adult beverage and you’ll be in psychedelic heaven.

Standout Track(s)
“Hey Droog!” is one hell of a heavy rhythmic tune with great feedback and chanting vocals. And the addition of the saxophone on “You’re No Good” just adds to their intoxicating aura.

Alcohol Pairing
Enjoy some of Vermont’s finest … Heart of Darkness by Magic Hat Brewery. This 5.70% ABV Stout is very smooth with a undercurrent taste of bittersweet chocolate.

Psychic Lemon has upped their game on this album and it does not get tiring at all. They are becoming pioneers for the new wave of modern Krautrock. - 2/19/2018
