Tune in, drop out and let the heaviness of Bees Made Honey in the Vein Tree wash over you. After a stellar debut release in Medicine back in 2017, the foursome from Germany have passed along the heavy psych torch to their latest effort, Grandmother. What we find on this album is a more exploratory and darker vision of Bees Made Honey in the Vein Tree (BMHITVT). Grandmother takes the listener on a meditative journey of heavy psychedelia and beautiful dark landscapes, allowing the mind to wander. Like Medicine, this album requires patience, it’s nearly impossible to comprehend the level creativity that was poured into the music after one listen or a preview.

Containing four ominous mind-numbing entities, the first song, “Cinitus” clocks in at 17:10 and kicks off with 7 minutes of meandering post-psych rock. Than out of nowhere they crank up the intensity and it’s a brilliant turn of events. The song continues to travel through peaks and valleys of heavy psych rock. One of the standout tracks is the beautifully written “Craving” and the gap-less transition from the first cut keeps us engaged. This track displays the majestic psychedelic beauty that BMHITVT can offer, the bottom line, it’s heavy psych bliss. The vocals slightly resemble a very trippy Maynard James Keenan set off in the distance, it’s a unique tone that really helps define the bands aura. Heading into track three, “Grandmother” is a mind numbing lengthy heavyweight of dark spacious sludge. The last song “Dionysus” is another track that just grabbed a hold of us with it’s brooding ISIS-like post heavy rhythm. We can only say so much in words, do yourself a favor and grab one of your favourite adult beverages and tap into the world of BMHITVT, we confident you’ll get absorbed into their psychedelic mastery.

Final Thoughts
Grandmother is easily one of this years top heavy psych rock albums that has hit our rotation to date. BMHITVT have really expanded upon their sound and the psychedelic rock genre. It’s an album that has a bit of a loner feel as each passing rotation will impress you and will only enhance your heavy collection.
