The sophomore release from Melbourne Australia’s Burn In Hell is a very convoluted channel for Gary Hallenan to shine on keyboards. The backbone of this album is the saloon landscape keyboard work that drives the melodies to this dark gothic release aptly titled ‘Dr. Awkward’. A carnival of illustrious soundscapes will certainly be a unique addition to your collection. If you can give this one a few rotations you may slowly develop an appetite for Hallenan’s abrasive bar room (almost Gaelic) appeal. Yes we do have the inclination to want to clear his throat every now and then. Perhaps our biggest struggle with this one was the vocal distractions while we very much enjoyed the instrumental backdrop. Solid song structure and variety pull this rating a bit higher than you would anticipate at first rotation.

Standout Tracks:
"Checkpoint Charlie Chaplin" is an exceptional track that has a touch of each element that strikes a cord with us on the album. Terrific keyboards some harmonica and drinking reflection. Great mellow tune with some mandolin which we always love to boot.

Alcohol Pairing:
Seelbach champagne cocktail-rich and complex, and perfect for the whisky drinker who wants to add a little sparkle to their dram
30ml bourbon
15ml Cointreau
3 dashes Angostura bitters
3 dashes Peychaud's bitters*
30ml sparkling wine to top
lemon peel to garnish

Lasting Impression:
We all need variety and the lighter side of heavy. This album is loaded with variety and entertainment. If you take a liking to the acquired vocal tastes you may throw this one when you are in that awkward mood. - 2/23/2018
