Wow, we can’t believe it has been ten years since Deadbird’s last album Twilight Ritual. Well in the footsteps of Tool the hiatus has boded quite well for the Arkansas natives. The band’s third album The Forest Within the Tree is a much darker and more thought provoking journey a decade later.  Pulling from more progressive energies, the band’s vocal harmonies shine to levels of Mastodon and Baroness. The album features some excellent contrast that develops more intensely as you embark further in the album.

Track Listing:
1. The Singularity (2:15)
2. Luciferous Heart (7:17)
3. Heyday (7:57)
4. Alexandria (3:08)
5. 11:34 (3:21)
6. Brought Low (6:49)
7. Bone & Ash (5:22)
8. Ending (2:14)

Standout Track:
"Brought Low" is an epic track and perhaps one of our favorites of the year. The dark creeping beginning builds with unique acoustic strings harkening the spirits of Layne Staley, shortly thereafter the track explodes into gut-wrenching reflection. Such a dark picture is painted as the melodies shine and depress concurrently. The fretwork collaboration is stellar as the track comes to an end.

Adult Beverage Pairing:
We highly recommend ‘Nightly Night’  from Lost Forty Brewery in Arkansas.  This Imperial Stout has been aged in Rye Whiskey Barrels, Bourbon Barrels, and Cabernet Barrels. Aged to velvety perfection creating a complex and delicious blend . With an ABV of 9.8%* and bold aromas and flavors of coffee and chocolate - this beer is the perfect compliment to the dark journey that Deadbird provides.

Final Thoughts:
We can’t honestly tell you what Deadbird has been doing for the last decade, but whatever it was, it sure has matured the band’s sound and message. The Forest Within the Tree is one hell of an intense journey that really requires a full listen from start to finish. The heaviness builds stealthy into one hell of an ending leading from "Brought Low" to "Bone & Ash". We picked this one up on vinyl with the limited edition trippy colors and absolutely love it. Pick-up a copy for yourselves, we highly recommend this one to be a mainstay in your rotation.
