Hailing from Spain, the doom trio known as Double Horse breaks on to the scene with their debut full length The Great Old Ones. This album will take you on a drug-induced journey through occult doom worship. Upon first listen, Double Horse possess a classic Electric Wizard drug vibe. Drummer/vocalist Guille has this incoherent vocal style that resembles early Jus Oborn meets a subdued David Yow from Jesus Lizard, a very intriguing combination. Doom aficionados will definitely hear the close resemblance to Electric Wizard, so it may not be truly original, but who is anymore, those bands are far and few in between. Double Horse somehow manage to conjure up a deep and trippy sound that is very mesmerizing.

The Great Old Ones has a raw production that resembles Come My Fanatics or Kyuss’ Wretch, it’s extremely fitting for the heaviness at hand. The scattered cult-drug-horror spoken word moments scattered throughout adds a layer 70s occult era doom. We listen to a shit ton of doom and these guys do just enough to stand out and fit comfortably within our heavy collection.

Standout Track(s)
There are really no standout cuts as each song sounds very similar, they don’t mix things up much. The bonus track “All Of Them” is a ggod starting point to see what your in for.

Adult Beverage Pairing
Hazy Memory is the perfect brew pairing for The Great Old Ones. Produced by Lagunitas Brewing, the medium-bodied 8% ABV New England styled IPA has wonderful citrus flavors and aromas.
