Tool, Failure, Year of the Rabbit
Ex Tool bassist Paul D Amour's new (poorly named) band, Feersum Ennjin, released their self-titled debut in late 2011. Their are glimmers of Tool bass lines throughout which gets you fired up, but only to fall flat. The song structures also try to follow the build-up technique of Tool, yet comes up short. The vocals and guitar rhythms are redundant and recycled throughout the album. From the first track, "The Fourth", we get the best of what we will get and that is mediocrity and nothing that gets the juices flowing. "Fishing Grounds" continues along a similar path featuring more Tool vibe that goes nowhere. "The Wilderness", "Dragon", and "Lines" continue with very straightforward alternative modern rock.
If you are looking for a middle of the road album that features monotone vocals, look no further. We will turn the dial half way to 5.5 of 11 for this one.
