Ghost Box Orchestra is undoubtedly one of the hidden gems nestled here in the Northeast, US. The five-piece band from Boston, Massachusetts has unleashed one hell of an album with High Plaine. They have pulled out all the stops on this one; it’s dense, trippy, psychedelic, mesmerizing and tribal. For fans of their earlier works you’ll be on cloud nine after hearing this. If you’re a newcomer than you’re in for a real treat, there’s nothing quite like discovering a new band that grabs a hold of you, and that’s exactly what Ghost Box Orchestra does.

What are the highlights of High Plaine?
This is extremely difficult to answer, the cosmic flow of the album is brilliant as the energy from each song tends to feed off each other. Most of the time we’re not sure what song we are listening to and to be honest, it doesn’t really matter, it’s very easy to get lost in the music. “Wave Goodbye” seems to stands out, the vocals and guitars are very pleasing to the ear. “Within The Sound” is also a tremendous song, it’s very thick and heavy with a bottomless percussion. We’re not sure what is about “Days Are Forever,” perhaps it’s the vocals, but it also draws us in.

How is the production value?
The production is superb for this style of music. It’s a full-bodied sound with very pronounced bass work, exceptional rhythmic drumming, spacious synths and psychedelic guitars. Crank it up a few notches, you’ll be blown away.

How is the vocal performance?
Excellent, if you love the vocal style of old Black Angels, yet a bit trippier with more echo, this should be right up your alley.

Does the album art reflect the music?
Yes it does. The psychedelic collage with colors of purple and gray that gives off a tribal feel is spot on.

Do Ghost Box Orchestra have other albums worth checking out?
Yes they do, after listening to this one, there are four previous releases to dive into.

What adult beverage to enjoy while listening to this album?
Jameson Irish Whiskey. Enjoy a couple of these on the rocks and you’re set.

What are our final thoughts about High Plaine?
Ghost Box Orchestra puts a ton of emotion and energy into their songwriting. Their attention to the small details and subtle nuances within this album has brought them to another level. High Plaine could be one of the finest psychedelic rock albums we have heard this year and since they are local to us, we’re eager to catch them on tour. - 8/29/2016
