(Bury Me Alive)
Norma Jean, Oh Sleeper
Good stuff from the post-hardcore, metal band Inhale Exhale from Canton, Ohio. More Norma Jean then a straight-up street hardcore bands like Sick of It All. Each song has great rhythm, pounding hardcore and intricate metal riffs along the lines of Norma or Vision of Disorder, but just when you think you have it figured out you are rewarded with harmonious interludes that break things up before you head into the storm again.
Vocalist, Ryland Raus, balances the two diverging vocal ranges skillfully and pulls you in with the flow of the song as he slides between them and the tempos and moods change. The musical arrangements are also very complex, with multiple change-ups and tempo shifts in each song that keep you stimulated through the entire album without a sense of exhaustion common to lesser hardcore bands.
The songs on Bury Me Alive could be confused with other tight pants teen wannabe post hardcore bands on first glance, but the quality and talent of the musicians and vocalist allow them to pull it all off without sounding pretentious or tedious.
