Lethal Night
(Visions in the Night)
2017
Staff Rating: Crank this to 8.4 of 11
Genre:
Power metal
Sounds Like:
Helloween, King Diamond, Merciful Fate
What a great find. True vocal sorcery bringing us back to the days when Kim Bendix Petersen and Michael Kiske could shatter glass and send chills (and laughter) throughout your soul. Welcome Lethal Night from Los Angeles, California and their debut album entitled Visions in the Night. Lead vocalist Steven Villa has quickly risen to legendary status in our eyes. Unleashed is a fucking vocal prowess unrivaled from a new band since well over a decade. To accompany this entertainment is the chiseled fretwork of the lead guitar duo Ray De Leon and Amadeus Mozart. Precision and complex arrangements abound. We encourage you to not let the album art fool you…this is balls deep with some quite energetic and elaborate arrangements. Five of the ten tracks hit the six minute mark and hold our attention which is not easy to do within this genre.

Standout Tracks:
The title track Visions in the Night has it all. Glass crushing dueling guitar licks and even a hint of Iron Maiden mystique. This track definitely elevates itself from the other eight tracks. Coming in second is the closing hair-raiser “Yelling Out Your Name”... some unique percussion and solid change-ups lead the way on this track.

Alcohol Pairing
No question, grab a 12 pack of Meister Brau From old tasting notes. Medium gold. Foamy white head. Tart grainy malt nose. Sweet grain upfront. Faint hops in middle. Brief dry finish. Drink very cold.

Lasting Impression
Yes we get a little over zealous with nostalgia, but Lethal Night is a fucking brand new band bringing back power metal love. Kudos to the quintet for giving their all to a craft that is unfortunately under appreciated these days. Metal fans… fuck that... this one needs to be in your collection. - 12/7/2017
