Blues soaked retro fueled fuzz is what Paralyzed throw down on their debut release Hidden Sun. The German-based foursome do a nice job of balancing modern psych rock with 70s inspired psychedelic rock. The production has a raw live studio quality with little or no polishing needed, the musicianship speaks for itself. At first listen we weren’t sure what to make of the vocals, but the music is so genuine that we couldn’t turn away. Vocalist Michael Binder portrays a Graveyard bluesy tone with hints of a young Chris Cornell; its unique and fitting.

After a few rotations we found ourselves immersed in the psych heaviness, it’s an album that gets better with each passing rotation. The track “No Mans Land” kicked right into gear after the intro. This song will no doubt dig its infectious hooks into you. The song that really converted us is “Dwarfland”. It begins with some meandering heavy blues, we’re not sure where they taking us, but we are along fore the ride. Than at 4:02 into the song, we are thrown into an classic stoner rhythm change and its fucking brilliant, the song just takes off. The album will not release its infectious grip as the next cut keeps us engaged. “Hidden Sun” has an uplifting rock vibe, great for early morning road trips. And lets throw the track “Graveyard” in here, this song has a deep drifting and lonesome heavy blues feel, the bass work on this track is very deep and really sets the foundation for the song, plus it may test your speakers.

Adult Beverage Pairing
Autumn is here and cool weather is settling in as its that time of year to start the transition to heavier brews. Grab a hold of some Hail To The Dark Gourd by Minnesota’s HammerHeart Brewing Company.  The seasonal dark 9.5% ABV Pumpkin Stout is extremely rich with flavors and aromas of bourbon and pumpkin spices. It will definitely compliment your listening experience of Hidden Sun.
