This album is so fucking rich with majestic melodies and impeccable chemistry. Red Scalp have absolutely floored us with their third release entitled ‘Lost Ghosts’. The five visionaries hailing from Poland take us on what feels like a concept album as the five tracks meander through surreal tribal landscapes. So impressive that it conjures up notions of Cormac McCarthy’s brilliant masterpiece Blood Meridian. A must read and epic violent novel of a fourteen-year-old who stumbles into the nightmarish world where Indians are being murdered and the market for their scalps is thriving. While we digress, our point is that Red Scalp has the ability to provide escape for the listener as their vision paints a world of despair and beauty. If you are looking for a great read and tremendous album pair these two together.
Most captivating about Lost Ghosts is the patience and care it delivers. The album eases into this atmosphere with clarity and genius. Weedjan’s saxophone work is so well-timed you will be absolutely hooked once it hits.
Song Structure: 10.5 of 11
Such detail and build-up through-out. Not one ounce of choppiness or dischord.
Risk of Subwoofer Damage: 8.2 of 11
Jankes delivers some fucking impressive bass-lines, but overall balance with highs and lows will comfort your woofers.
Fretwork Prowess: 9.8 of 11
Fuzz-tone precision - exceptional indeed.
Overall Album Flow: 10.7 of 11
Perhaps the most impressive aspect of this album. Plays like a concept album whether intended or unintended.
Contrast: 9.2 of 11
Steady and brilliant. The highs and lows are not too dramatic but powerful when they occur.
Album Cover Aesthetics: 10.3 of 11
Kudos to Jan Wawrzyniak. We are guessing he must have listened to the album before painting? Would love to uncover more about this. Jan… visit our Homage to the Artist page, we would love to feature you!
Production Value: 10.2 of 11
Crisp and clean. All the clarity in the world.
We are torn between the title track and "Mantra Bufala". Just captivating and both the backbone of this album.
Stable Orbit by Bottle Logic Brewing. Indulge yourself in some 9% ABV Imperial double. Crisp and smooth with tones of maple hoppy bites.
Your collection needs this album whether you are a stoner rock fan or just a lover of crafty song structure and tremendous album flow. If you want escape, Red Scalp is the answer. - 11/30/2017
