How the hell did we not know about The Sledge is beyond us. On The Verve of Nothing, the bands debut album was released in June of 2018 and has just recently taken control of our rotation. Hailing from Coppenhagen, Denmark, The Sledge deliver a massive overdose of bluesy rock, majestic riffs and some dirty sludge on this record. The vocals are a big draw to the album, they are somewhat clean with a spaced-out and bluesy approach which propels them into a new light. It’s refreshing to hear as we expected more of the sludge death vocal style, which can get tiresome.

We don’t often get too detailed on track-by-track breakdowns, yet we delve deep into our reviews to bring forward some of the highlights that lure us in. We eagerly want to bring fourth the last track “Flammehav,” this 9 minute plus instrumental is a stellar piece of work. It hits on all levels, it’s peaceful and heavy at the same time. The Mother Engine-like jams and the well-timed saxophone makes this one fucking brilliant tune of psychedelic heaviness. Check out “Tantra” as well, we absolutely fell in love with the rhythm change-up at the 2:34 mark. The second cut “Death Drome Doline” has a spaced-out, trippy Fu Manchu vibe in the beginning, than it spirals into doom territory. We urge you fans of the heavy to give this album a spin, we know you’ll be hooked.

Adult Beverage Pairing
Haze by Massachusetts Treehouse Brewery. One of our favorite brewery's, this 8.2% Double IPA is packed with smooth notes of orange and passionfruit. The flavors give off a blast of citrus and peaches than quickly followed by a bounty of tropical fruit.  It’s an amazing brew that's extremely difficult to put in words.
