Nestled in the Northeast U.S., welcome The Surrealist, a two-man instrumental progressive band based out of Boston, MA. This project composed of guitarist Roopam Garg and drummer John-Marc Degaard have released a stimulating blend of progressive metal combined with some sort of modern odd experimental instrumentation. These four tracks sound very similar to one another, yet they inject elements of metal, jazz, eastern-fusion, ambient and psychedelics into this one.

What are the highlights of Naked Awareness?
The second cut “Flowering of Consciousness” seems to have the most diversity. The metal style of guitarist Roopam starts to shine through here. The last track “Waves of Naked Awareness” has a very jazz-like improved feel, it’s quite a unique blend of styles going one here.

How is the production value?
The production is very good and strong for a two-man project. The craftsmanship and chemistry between Roopam and John-Marc is tight and precise.

What are two words best describing this album?
Experimental and Progressive

What adult beverage to enjoy while listening to this album?
Since they are from Boston, let's enjoy some Lord Hobo Boom Sauce.  This 8.00 (ABV) brew and its citrus-like taste should complement this album very well.

What are our final thoughts on Naked Awareness?

We really enjoy this as an EP, and we wonder how it could hold up as a full length. We would love to hear a follow-up with a tad more diversity, but at the end of the day, it’s a solid EP that will enhance your instrumental metal playlist. - 9/28/2016
