The debut album from Pamplona, Spain natives, Thursdays Pussy Dogs, had us intrigued by the color scheme album cover and beyond bizarre band name. Be prepared to be lathered in an organ/keyboard frenzy and southern rock flair. While we see psychedelic rock posted throughout their social media we are scratching are heads a bit on that genre attachment. What we do hear is a tinge of Graveyard song structure, but the backbone of TPD is guitar, blues and southern rock. Much of the album plays akin to a cover band who has a solid guitarist where the songs are all geared around a few solos and incessant keyboard work. Ultimately the debut is choppy with sub-par vocals and paper thin depth.

Standout Track:
"Dirty Mind" contains the most elaborate fretwork of the lot and we appreciate the contrast and meandering that occurs. This track is the closest thing to psychedelic that we hear on the album. Love the feedback and banjo exit. The band needs to bottle this vibe and move forward with their second album.

Alcohol Pairing:
Grab a Spanish native ‘Queimada’ as you dive into Pussy. This hypnotic potion is one of the traditional drinks of Spain. Made from the ” Orujo”, a grape liquor from Galicia. This liquor is put in a clay pot along with lemon peels, sugar, and coffee beans. This mixture is then set on fire and a blue flame is what is required before the fire needs to be set off and the mixture put to small clay cups.

Final Thoughts:
Howlin' Like A Shewolf plays like a novice act throwing a lot against the wall to see what sticks. Well it takes about 11 tracks for something to officially stick in our minds and lets hope they take that direction forward. The mismatch with the psychedelic stoner rock album art and the sound is about as blatant as it gets.
