We all need a dose of apocalyptic fantasy driven doom in our heavy collection. URSA, hailing from California have released a monolithic heavy beast with Abyss Between the Stars. The album is loaded with trippy riffs, dense percussion and majestic vocals combined with terrific songwriting. With tales of wizards, witches and dragons, URSA will bring out the inner D&D in you. After listing to this album a couple times, it some how feels like the perfect soundtrack to the 1982 B-movie Ator, the Fighting Eagle. It must be the track “Cave of the Spider King,” as there is a giant cave dwelling spider in the movie as well. After countless rotations we find Abyss Between the Stars to be one of 2018's most entertaining doom releases, they do a brilliant job of fusing together elements of progressive metal and melodic doom. Fans of Pallbearer to Forming the Void will be all over this one.

Tracklist:
1. Wizard's Path 06:44
2. Dragon's Beard 07:47
3. Serengeti Yeti 07:45
4. Thirteen Witches 07:48
5. Cave of the Spider King 10:15
6. The Mountain 05:57

Standout Track(s)
The album is loaded with infectious doom hooks at every turn. “Cave of the Spider King” could be the standout, it’s an epic track of doom fantasy with the most diversity. The banjo in the intro is classic. We must say, the cover of Steve Earl’s “The Mountain” is great, we love the trippy and echoed Paul Stanley-like vocals on this one.

Adult Beverage Pairing
We’re going with Blaecorn Unidragon Russian Imperial Stout from Clown Shoes Brewery The dragon art and the 12% (ABV) pairs well with Abyss Between the Stars, plus it’s a damn fine beer.
