Viodfire from Poland has injected the Black metal scene with a dose of fresh aggression-tilted, apocalyptic metal on their debut album Ogień Pustki. Founded in 2018 as an instrumental project by Jakub M. Zdzienicki, the band grew with the addition of drummer Łukasz 'Icanraz' Sarnacki, lyricist Jakub Lisicki and vocalist Krzysztof 'Virian' Sobczak. Well, this seems to be a good direction as Voidfire have put together a well crafted album of melodic and desolate black metal.

First off, its impossible to ignore this album, especially with the album art from the legendary Zdzisław Beksiński. Originally painted in 1976, this cover really paints a picture of the music at hand. Ogień Pustki is an album that transcends beyond your traditional Black metal, it feels very well thought out and somewhat exploratory. The contrast between the onslaught of blackened metal with the sudden breakdowns of minimal rhythms is what makes the album for us, it keeps the listener engaged.

Tracklist:
1. Bladość 07:51
2. Światło-Cierń 06:42
3. - 06:44
4. Kwiat Pustki 07:31
5. Sztorm 07:55
6. Ogień Pustki 07:51

Standout Track(s)
Of all the swift desolate metal on this album, we gravitated towards ”-”. This track portrays some very sick and intense guitar licks with great black metal gutteral vocals.

Adult Beverage Pairing
We recommend Blackivy by Veil Brewing in Virginia. This 8% ABV Imperial IPA is one thick brew, yet has tastes of citrus and coffee with a slight bitterness, an unusual combo, but it works. The last minute of this track is so intense as they seem to add some sludge to the mix.

Ogień Pustki takes the foundations of traditional Black metal and expands into newer realms of the genre. This is a terrific debut album and shows that Voidfire can take their music in so many different directions without losing the influences of Black metal.
