Stoner rock, Metal
Sounds Like:
Floating Goat, Bad Wizard, Iron Maiden
The stoner metal scene has just received a kick in the gut with the debut release from War Cloud. The three-piece busting out of Oakland, California has reinvigorated our love for all things metal with their fervor and ambitious stoner metal shredding. War Cloud is brilliant at leveraging classic metal riffs and forging them with a modern stoner groove. Just think what a recording session between Saviours, Bad Wizard, Iron Maiden and The Sword could sound like if they locked themselves in a studio for a day, it would be tremendous.

What are the highlights of this album?
The second track “Chopper Wired” is a stoner metal gem, it has great forward moving rhythm combined with a raw metal sound. Go to this track if you want a quick sample of the band. “Divide and Conquer” and “Hurricane” display moments of duel guitar rifffage in vein of classic Iron Maiden while “No Man’s Land” has a Sword vibe, so basically this album has it all. The last two cuts “Speed Demon” and “Vulture City” are entertaining as all hell with their stoned fury, solidifying the album as a modern day stoner metal classic.

How is the vocal performance?
Alex Wein, founder of War Cloud gives a solid performance. His style is reminiscent of late 80s to early 90s thrash and metal.

What adult beverage to enjoy while listening to this album?
Definitely pick up some Go West! IPA from San Francisco’s Anchor Brewing Company.

Final thoughts on War Cloud.
Ripple Music has hit a home run signing these guys. This album must be witnessed in a live atmosphere. We look forward to an East Coast tour in the near future. - 1/16/2018
