Drug-laced sludge is what it’s all about in the Weed Demon camp. The foursome from Ohio delve deeper into the depths of fuzzed-out hallucioigenic doom on their second release Astrological Passages. Weed Demon do a fantastic job at captivating their audience, this album really takes over the room and is so fucking hypnotizing to the core, the track “Dominion of Oblivion” is the perfect example. What really sets them apart is the three vocalists, yes three. There are moments of toned down Al Cisneros Om-like vocal work to death screeches and even the echoed sludge of Drude, and they make it all work together beautifully.

The music is a real trip, Weed Demon are no carbon copy sludge band, there is a wealth of talent to be discovered. The last cut “Jettisoned” is 12:37 of beautiful atmospheric sludge instrumentation. And, is that a harmonica we hear, how often are we treated to a harmonica in sludge, maybe never, and its fucking brilliant. Oh, and the last couple of minutes of this track takes a sudden shift into an acoustic Southwestern, Quinten Terrintino movie styled jam… just a terrific way to end the album.

Lets go with a brew from Weed Demon’s homeland, Ohio. Grab some Dragonsaddle by Hoof Hearted Brewing. This 11.5% ABV Triple IPA is not for the faint of heart, just like the album.

Lasting Impression
Weed Demon really took us by surprise, there is so much depth to this album, we cant even begin to explain. Electric Valley Records has an absolute gem in their catalog of heaviness. It could be one of the best sludge albums to hit our rotation so far this year. - 7/1/2018
