Staff Rating: Crank this to 8.8 of 11
Genre:
Stoner rock, Metal
Sounds Like:
The Sword, Baroness, Corrosion of Conformity
From the up and coming heavy rock label Cursed Tongue Records comes an album stuffed to the gills with metal and stoner themes. Wolftooth, hailing from Richmond, Indiana has unleashed their debut full length upon us and man this one is getting a ton of rotations. The album is loaded with classic metal riffs for old school metal fans plus a wealth of driving stoner grooves to satisfy the stoner lovers. Basically, this album is metal heaven. Wolftooth do not hide their influences one bit, you’ll hear inspiration coming from acts like The Sword and Baroness to bands like Corrosion of Conformity and Saviours. What they have done is hone in on these styles and put their own personality into the songwriting and crafted a heavy fucking rhythmic album.

They have brilliantly meshed decades of metal into 45 minutes with songs like “Frost Lord” and its galloping metal fury to the stoner driven “The Huntress”. The vocals are clean with good control and tone, which is one of the draws to the album. We urge you to take this one along on a road trip, you’ll probably give it a few spins in a row without realizing it, the album is just too entertaining for its own good.

We love this album art, it conjures up memories of the classic 80s horror flick The Howling movie poster.

Standout Track(s)
“The Humtress,” “Aegaeon” and “Frost Lord” and “White Mountain”.

Alcohol Pairing
Pick up some Zombie Dust by Indiana’s 3 Floyds Brewing Co. The 6.20% ABV American pale ale has a citrusy taste and aroma, a great pairing with Wolftooth.

Lasting Impression
If you’re in the hunt for some heavy rock with metal chops and rhythmic stoner jams, look no further than Wolftooth. The album does not wear thin after several listens either, it’s just pure unfiltered metal. - 2/6/2018
